Good Grief! contributor and chef Lyndey Milan shared her recipe for Spiced Apple and Raspberry Slice on Channel 7, on Wednesday when we talked with the hosts of the Morning Show, Larry Emdur and Kylie Gllies, about comforting the grieving.
While Lyndey prepared one of our favourite comfort foods for grief, Kylie asked me what are some of the ways we can show support for the grieving. My answer is to be present to them.
“If you would normally be someone who rang, ring. If you were someone who just chatted in the street, do that. When you’re grieving, unfortunately you do notice when people see you coming and walk the other way.”
The grieving often find it hard to eat, let alone cook, Lydney said.
“A dish such as this one is like a great big virtual hug,” she said, adding that like lasagne it is versatile – it can be kept in the fridge and heated up when visitors arrive, something that happens when a death occurs.
