I spent yesterday introducing Good Grief! to the Hunters Hill community in Sydney as we prepare for the next Understand Death Better Q&A session, on August 3.
Hunters Hill is a picturesque suburb of Sydney, one of the earliest areas settled on the stunning harbour, with strong French influences, golden sandstone buildings and early colonial architecture still on display. And because it’s a peninsula, it easily lends itself to creating a sense of community.
That’s in evidence with this exercise. The event will be held in the morning and then again in the evening in the parish hall of the Catholic Holy Name of Mary Church in Mary Street. But the hosts want to be ecumenical and are eager to invite everyone along.
So yesterday I met with staff from All Saints Anglican Church in Ambrose Street and community workers from Life Congregational Church – as well as the manager of the Hunters Hill Club and the Woolwich Pier Hotel. The postmistress happily allowed our poster to be put on display.
So we’re ready to work with another community as we create this opportunity for people to talk about death and grief.
It will be our distinct formula – a short questionnaire at the beginning over a cuppa, so that we can be sure we find out the questions you want to hear answered.
We hope you’ll join us.
