As the organisers say, it’s “a time to talk about what matters most”.

“National Advance Care Planning Week is an annual initiative by Advance Care Planning Australia that encourages all Australians, regardless of their age or health status, to make their future health care preferences known,” they explain on their website.

“Advance Care Planning Australia (ACPA) is a national program funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, enabling Australians to make the best choices for their future health and care,” it says.

It is administered by Victoria’s Austin Health.

“The initiative challenges people to discuss what living well means to them and to consider who they would want to speak for them, if they were too sick to speak for themselves.”

It has been successful in “starting tough but important conversations, bringing the topic to talk-back radio and family dinner tables across Australia – from Kalgoorlie to Townsville to Alice Springs.”

A lot of the events are poster displays in the entrance foyers at local hospitals. So it will be easy to mosey around and have a look at resources in a gentle, non-threatening environment.
